Available online are Armitage’s letters to Moore from soon after they first met in 1938 to the end of the 1950s. For much of this period Armitage taught sculpture at the Bath Academy of Art, following his military service during the Second World War. Armitage began to establish his reputation at this time, holding his first solo show at Gimpel Fils in 1952 and participating in the Venice Biennale in both 1952 and 1958. This sub-fonds contains two diaries kept by Henry Scott Tuke, his paintings registers and papers relating to the sale of his art works, sketch books and artworks, photographs, correspondence by and to Henry Scott Tuke, artists‘ materials; interviews with people who knew Tuke recorded in the 1960s, and miscellaneous personal papers, exhibition catalogues and press cuttings. The sub-fonds also contains transcripts of and indexes for Tuke’s diaries and the paintings registers produced by the donor B.D. Price.
