In her essay, Max Planck Director Ayelet Shachar describes how governments in western countries are increasingly attempting to control access to their territories far beyond the actual national borders and monitor the mobility of their own citizens. These efforts have been massively intensified with the spread of the corona pandemic. The legal expert warns that this must change as soon as the virus is defeated.

How hydrogen behaves in aluminium alloys

https://www.mpg.de/19566146/how-hydrogen-behaves-in-aluminium-alloys

Hydrogen in aluminium can cause embrittlement and critical failure. However, the behaviour of hydrogen in aluminium was not yet understood. Scientists at the Max-Planck-Institut für Eisenforschung were able to locate hydrogen inside aluminium’s microstructure and designed strategies to trap the hydrogen atoms inside the microstructure. This can reduce failure due to hydrogen embrittlement.

Max Planck researchers discover the oldest ever images of dogs on leashes

https://www.mpg.de/11802436/oldest-ever-images-of-dogs-on-leashes?c=12641858

While conducting research in the Saudi Arabian desert, scientists from the Max Planck Institute for the Science of Human History and the Max Planck Institute for Evolutionary Anthropology uncovered significant evidence of early human settlement in the region. Over 1,400 images carved in the rock show people hunting with dogs. The researchers believe they are at least 8,000 to 9,000 years old.
Another possibility is that they kept leashes on young dogs who they wanted to train

Organ donation: Opt-out defaults do not increase donation rates

A recent study by the Max Planck Institute for Human Development, in collaboration with the MSB Medical School Berlin and the Max Planck UCL Centre for Computational Psychiatry and Ageing Research, shows that switching to an opt-out organ donation policy, where all adults are presumed organ donors unless they explicitly opt out, does not increase donations from deceased donors. The results of the study have been published in the journal Public Health.
