Sustainable multifunctional management by small forest owners in support of bioeconomy, biodiversity and climate

https://www.wsl.ch/de/projekte/small4good/

Increasing cold stress on photosynthesis in a warming climate?

https://www.wsl.ch/de/projekte/cold-stress-mighgt-limit-carbon-gain-also-in-a-warming-climate/

Photosynthesis of forest ecosystems can be reduced in spring most likely due to cold temperatures. Such cold-related processes are, however, not captured in mechanistic models and we thus aim to assess the mechanisms and frequencies of such depressions and include them into models.

Towards a socio-ecological densification

https://www.wsl.ch/de/veranstaltungen-und-kurse/towards-a-socio-ecological-densification/

Many cities worldwide have introduced densification strategies. Yet, the current implementation of densification brings many challenges for a just and socio-ecological urban development, particularly regarding the displacement of lower-income residents, high CO2-emissions stemming from building activities, and the rather low democratic acceptance of densification. In this talk, I will exemplify these challenges and outline potential strategies towards a fair and sustainable densification.

TreeWater – Disentangling the isotopic signal transfer from source water to tree rings

https://www.wsl.ch/de/projekte/treewater-disentangling-the-isotopic-signal-transfer-from-source-water-to-tree-rings/

TreeWater aims to improve our understanding of whether and how information on water uptake dynamics can be retrieved from the oxygen and hydrogen (i.e. water) isotopes in tree rings.
Specifically, we will (1) link high-resolution data of water isotopes of precipitation
