Alexandra (Allie) Anderson is a wildlife biologist and quantitative ecologist with the Shorebird Science and Conservation Collective. Through the Shorebird Collective, Anderson is aggregating and integrating shorebird tracking datasets from multiple governments, universities and nonprofits to provide quantitative and analytical support that informs on-the-ground shorebird conservation initiatives.

Morgan Maly is a Ph.D. candidate and graduate student researcher at the Smithsonian Conservation Biology Institute’s Center for Species Survival and Center for Conservation Genomics. Maly’s interests are in conservation genetics and genomics. She’s particularly interested in utilizing genetic and genomic data to manage endangered species populations, the role of microbiomes in species conservation and management, and host/microbe interactions.

Jonathan Ballou was the population manager and a research scientist at the Smithsonian Conservation Biology Institute in Washington, D.C. His research focused on the genetic and demographic problems confronted by small populations, especially of threatened species. He is recognized as a leader in developing the theoretical basis for the genetic management of small populations and in developing population management tools (software, applied theory) that are widely and internationally used by wildlife and zoo managers.

E. Emperatriz Gamero is currently a fellow at the Smithsonian Conservation Biology Institute’s Center for Conservation Genomics, where she conducts lab work for her master’s degree. Her research aims to propose a phylogenetic hypothesis about the origins of the endemic and critically endangered Margarita capuchin, and its divergence from mainland capuchins. She hopes to examine longstanding questions about specific versus subspecific status of the species based on their colonization of Margarita Island. Gamero’s projects include:

She is passionate about creating communication best practices and building relationships among stakeholders. Griffin strives to promote conservation and sustainability by developing communications plans, implementing strategies, writing reports and fact sheets, and leading workshops on communications and branding.
