This collection contains the personal papers of Thomas Cooper Gotch and Henry Scott Tuke which were donated to Tate together by Brian D. Price. Items from both sides of the collection have been digitised and are available to view online. From Tuke’s works, items available online includes: a diary documenting Tuke’s daily life from 1899-1905; two paintings registers compiled by Tuke which provide a record of his paintings, and their exhibitions and sales from 1879-1934, featuring printed images of many of his works; selected sketch books, sketches and scrap books featuring art works made and signed by Henry Scott Tuke; …

Alan Durst (1883-1970) was born in Alverstoke, Hampshire, and educated at Marlborough College. He then served in the Royal Marines until 1913, when he began to learn to carve ivory at the London County Council Central School. His interest in carving led him to Chartres where he became enamoured of stone. But the First World War intervened, and for five years he served at sea, and on demobilization became curator of the Watts Museum at Compton, Surrey. In 1920, he returned to London and the Central School, carving in stone and wood, particularly for architectural and decorative purposes. He exhibited …

This sketchbook is titled ‚Journal‘ and covers Gaudier-Brzeska’s first year in London. It is dated (‚commence 5 Avril 1911‘) and is made up of thirty-five pages, with three loose pages, and a pencil self-portrait. The drawings illustrate Gaudier-Brzeska’s continuing interest in symbolism and there are many important notes about his developing aesthetic theories. There are three pages of notes dated on various days in April 1911. The notes detail ideas for posters, cartoons and what appear to be proposals for wallpaper designs for Sanderson.
