The annual ‘Trends and projections’ report provides an assessment of the progress of the EU and European countries towards their climate mitigation and energy targets. It is based on national data for greenhouse gas emissions, renewable energy and energy consumption. The report was prepared on behalf of the European Environment Agency, as partner of the ETC on Climate Change Mitigation and Energy (ETC/CME).

This paper presents the results of an in‐depth analysis and a comparison of six mitigation scenarios from three important scenario studies released since 2009 by Greenpeace, EURELECTRIC and the European Climate Foundation (ECF) respectively. A decomposition method is applied to show the extent to which technologies and strategies contribute to CO2 emission reductions in the individual scenarios.

This report provides a summary of the assessment of the EU Member States’ (MS) submission under Article 14 of the Monitoring Mechanism Regulation (MMR)in 2015. The underlying quality assurance (QA) procedure (ETC Technical Paper 2015/11) has been updated to be in line with the new provisions under the MMR and to improve the effectiveness of the checks and the procedure itself.
