Skating on the Frozen Amstel River by Adam van Breen

https://www.nga.gov/artworks/150754-skating-frozen-amstel-river

In this winter landscape, aristocrats, burghers, countrymen, and orphans take to the ice of the frozen Amstel River. From a young boy propelling himself with sticks on a prikslee (small push-sled) to the group of three stately men with no skates conversing by the riverbank, each of Van Breen’s figures colorfully brings to life the possible actions and interactions of a winter’s day on the ice.

One Year the Milkweed by Arshile Gorky

https://www.nga.gov/artworks/56936-one-year-milkweed

In One Year the Milkweed , one of several so-called color veil paintings Gorky made in 1944, films of paint have been washed unevenly across the canvas, and evocative but indistinct forms have been brushed in. Overall green and brown hues suggest a landscape, but there are no identifiable landscape forms and no spatial recession.

Duccio di Buoninsegna | National Gallery of Art

https://www.nga.gov/artists/1249-duccio-di-buoninsegna

The greatest exponent of Sienese painting between the last quarter of the thirteenth and the first two decades of the fourteenth century, Duccio is documented for the first time in the role of painter in 1278, when he was paid by the Comune of Siena for the decoration of twelve coffers ( casse ) for the conservation of documents. Although this cannot have been a work of any particular artistic distinction, we may assume that the civic authorities would have chosen an artist who was already prominent in the city and in charge of a thriving workshop.
