Metal fleeces increase the energy density of battery electrodes https://www.mpg.de/24758041/material-for-the-batteries-of-the-future?c=11863417
Batteries are becoming more powerful and cost-efficient thanks to the accelerated transport of lithium ions through metal fleeces. A team led by Joachim Spatz at the Max Planck Institute for Medical Research has demonstrated that nonwoven electrodes offer significantly higher energy density than conventional foil electrodes. One key reason is that ions move particularly quickly through a Helmholtz layer that forms on the metal surface.
