Climate change: it’s only intermission | Max-Planck-Gesellschaft

Climate change and global warming will continue, although they have slowed in the past decade. This is confirmed by calculations of the transient climate response (TCR) and the equilibrium climate sensitivity (ECS) carried out by an international team of researchers at the University of Oxford, and under the participation of J. Marotzke and B. Stevens from the Max Planck Institute for Meteorology. The calculations take into account current measurement data on climate like the global average temperature.

Hormones dictate breeding success in birds | Max-Planck-Gesellschaft

Some animals produce more offspring than others do. Hormones like prolactin and corticosterone can exercise a crucial influence on the behaviour of birds in the breeding season and therefore on their reproductive success. Scientists from the Max Planck Institute for Ornithology in Radolfzell and their colleagues at the universities of Princeton and Edinburgh have now demonstrated that hormone levels not only play a key role during the breeding season, but already dictate, long in advance, how many eggs a breeding pair will lay, when they will lay them and how often. An animal’s hormonal constitution is thus of major significance for its reproductive success, and is possibly an important driving force of evolution. New rules for tech giants | Max-Planck-Gesellschaft

With the Digital Markets Act, the EU Commission wants to limit the market power of tech giants such as Google, Apple, Facebook/Meta, Amazon or Microsoft and protect competition in the European market. In an interview, Heiko Richter, Senior Research Fellow for Digitalization and Competition Law at the Max Planck Institute for Innovation and Competition explains the goals of the planned regulation, which is currently being negotiated.
