https://www.mpg.de/20668258/interview-munichre-kosten-klimawandel

When the astronauts of the Apollo 11 mission returned to Earth, they had almost 22 kilograms of rock from the surface of the moon in their baggage. Josef Zähringer from the Max Planck Institute for Nuclear Physics in Heidelberg was one of the first researchers allowed to analyze the material in the US. Two months later, Heinrich Wänke’s team at the Max Planck Institute for Chemistry in Mainz also received a grain.

GW190521 is a new gravitational wave signal. It is the result of the merger of the most massive and most distant black holes to date. The remnant of GW190521 is a black hole with 142 solar masses. For the first time the formation of an intermediate-mass black hole was directly observed.

In large swathes of Germany’s industrial Ruhr Valley region, coal mining is a thing of the past as is true in other European coalfields. But people in the affected regions continue to be hard hit by the associated job losses, as jobs not only secured their livelihoods, but also created a sense of community. At the Max Planck Institute for Human Development Julia Wambach is looking into what replaced worker solidarity and has come across two committed football clubs: FC Schalke 04 and the French club RC Lens.
On their website, Schalke 04 explains: „In combination
