Measuring the effect | Max-Planck-Gesellschaft https://www.mpg.de/10749573/literature
Winfried Menninghaus, a scientist at the Max Planck Institute for Empirical Aesthetics in Frankfurt am Main, is studying how people react to poetry and prose, not only mentally but also physically. For many classical philologists and Germanists, his work is a betrayal of their disciplines. Yet in fact, he is succeeding for the first time in rendering the effect of poetic and rhetoric language measurable. In addition, he is also reviving another ancient discipline that has been shabbily treated for far too long – rhetoric.
