Die mitochondriale DNA aus dem Oberschenkelknochen eines Neandertalers liefern einen zeitlichen Rahmen für eine vermutete Migration von Urmenschen aus Afrika, die eng mit dem modernen Menschen verwandt waren. Diese kreuzten sich mit den zu dieser Zeit bereits in Europa lebenden Neandertalern und hinterließen ihre Spur in der Neandertaler-DNA. Die Studie unter Federführung des Max-Planck-Instituts für Menschheitsgeschichte und der Universität Tübingen datiert dieses Ereignis auf die Zeit vor 470.000 bis 220.000 Jahren.

A graphene nanoribbon could be suitable as a nanowire for molecular electronics. Scientists in L. Grill’s group at the Fritz Haber Institute of the Max Planck Society measured the conductance of carbon nanostrips as a function of their length and the electron energy. The conductance measurements help researchers understand charge transport in nanoscopic molecular wires and make progress in nanotechnology, especially in nanoelectronics.
