The European Charter for Equality of Women and Men in Local Life („EU Charter“) is a framework for action aimed at increasing and promoting equal access for all people to the resources of society. With their signature the local and regional governments commit themselves to the principle of equality between women and men and to establishing an action plan on gender equality, setting concrete targets and defining measures for implementing gender equality. The City of Heidelberg signed the EU Charter for Equality in 2007.
The German association is part of the CEMR.
