Politics: Israel’s Bennett-Lapid Government is a Victory for Democracy

https://www.freiheit.org/israel-and-palestinian-territories/israels-bennett-lapid-government-victory-democracy

The new and most ideologically diverse government in the history of Israel does not raise high expectations. It seems neither Left nor Right expect paradise from a coalition built on so much compromise. Yet to the polarized political climate of recent years, this is revolutionary. Only a month ago Israel faced one of the worst eruptions of communal violence in years.

HUNGARY: New Legislation in Hungary Bans LGBT+ Related Content in Schools and TV

https://www.freiheit.org/central-europe-and-baltic-states/new-legislation-hungary-bans-lgbt-related-content-schools-and-tv

On Tuesday, the 15th of June, the Hungarian parliament passed a new law to protect children from pedophilia. However, said law also bans LGBT+ related content for minors in schools, advertisement and TV. This renewed attack against the LGBT+ community causes national and international outrage – thousands went to the streets in Budapest last Monday to protest against the draft bill of the Fidesz party, which associates homosexuality and gender change with pedophilia.

Georgiens Richtungsentscheidung: Die „Registrierung ausländischer Agenten“ würde eine Abkehr vom Westen bedeuten

https://www.freiheit.org/de/suedkaukasus/die-registrierung-auslaendischer-agenten-wuerde-eine-abkehr-vom-westen-bedeuten

Netherlands: „New Kids on the Block“ – Farmer party wins Dutch elections

https://www.freiheit.org/european-union/new-kids-block-farmer-party-wins-dutch-elections

A new populist party has rocked the political landscape in the Netherlands by winning the provincial elections last Wednesday. The BoerBurgerBeweging (Farmer-Citizen Movement/BBB) won more than one in five votes nationwide, with a campaign that capitalised on rural anger at the current government’s environmental policies. The result will put pressure on the government’s ability to pass legislation, as the provincial elections determine the makeup of the Dutch Senate, and may lead to increased tensions within the four=party governing coalition.

EU Directive: Schutz vor SLAPP-Klagen

https://www.freiheit.org/germany/abusive-trials-safeguarding-journalists-and-human-rights-defenders-against-slapp-cases

Autocratic and illiberal regimes use political and legal persecution to silence journalists or human rights activists. Such legal proceedings are called „Strategic Litigation against Publication Participation“ or SLAPP for short. A draft EU directive aims to prevent such abusive lawsuits that arbitrarily violate the fundamental rights of the accused.
