On Monday May 20, the new President of Taiwan, William Lai Ching-te and his Vice-President Hsiao Bi-khim were inaugurated in Taipei. Many representatives from neighbouring countries and the international community, politicians from all Taiwanese political groups and civil society representatives attended. Sri Lanka welcomed 2019 more than two Million tourist who visited the island, often called the ‚Pearl in the Indian Ocean‘ providing work and income for 473.000 persons. The income from tourism contributes upto 6 % to the Grand National Product (GDP) of the country. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic all airports were closed for incoming traffic, no tourist could arrive anymore. Tourism collapsed.

However, the European unification process is not complete without the Western Balkans states. In order to maintain the perspective of EU accession, fundamental reforms will have to be implemented. Societies as well need to be clear about what it means to be part of a European community of values.
