The Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organization (SEAMEO) was established in November 1965 as a chartered international organization whose purpose is to promote cooperation in education, science and culture in the Southeast Asian region. This website provides information on activities of the SEAMEO Secretariat (SEAMES) which administers a variety of programmes on behalf of the 11 SEAMEO Member Countries and the SEAMEO Network. There are 21 specialised SEAMEO Centres that undertake training and research in various fields of education. SEAMEO also provides a lot of publications on its website. Furthermore, the website provides an overview of the education system of each country, including links to the respective ministries for education. Published in 2012, the ASEAN Curriculum Sourcebook (Association of Southeast Asian Nations) is based on a survey conducted 2008-2010 on the curricula of the ASEAN member states. It is meant to bring closer the educational goals of ASEAN states and provides concrete suggestions for elements of a common curriculum which proclaims the values and norms of the ASEAN community. The sourcebook’s chapters are divided into the following five themes: Knowing ASEAN, Valuing Identity and Diversity, Connecting Global and Local, Promoting Equity and Justice, and Working Together for a Sustainable Future. The sourcebook is meant to be a toolkit for teachers. It was supported financially by USAID.
