Monitoring is key in the context of ecosystem restoration. Both on the EU level and the national level, existing or newly established monitoring schemes should inform the prioritisation of restoration actions. Both the progress of restoration measures and the subsequent improvement of ecosystem condition needs to be monitored, to allow for adaptive actions and to verify success.
