August 23, 2015 – November 21, 2015 | | Free The Minneapolis Institute of Art is proud to present the Minneapolis Satellite Reef, part of the Institute For Figuring’s worldwide Crochet Coral Reef project. The world’s largest participatory art and science project, the IFF’s Crochet Coral Reef project combines mathematics, marine biology, environmental consciousness raising and community art practice. More than 7,000 people have helped to make these gorgeous woolen seascapes, which have been exhibited around the world. Mia invites the community to participate in the making of a Minneapolis Satellite Reef, part of the Institute For Figuring’s ongoing Satellite Reef program

August 21, 2014 – March 8, 2015 | Perlman Gallery (G368), African Galleries (G250 and G254) | Free Exhibition „In the 1980s and 90s I photographed structures that we South Africans had made during the Era of Baasskap—that time, from about 1660 until 1990, in which Whites gradually came to exert dominion over all of South Africa and its peoples. It was the values we had expressed in those structures that I sought and attempted to elicit in photographs and text. „Beginning in 1999—four years after the first democratic elections brought Nelson Mandela to power—and continuing into the present, I have engaged in a similar photography of some of the structures that have emerged with our democracy and that I believe are expressive of values in this new, still nascent and yet in many ways old way of being in our society

Minneapolis College of Art and Design students Josh Manoles, a graphic designer, and Linnea Stephan, a photographer, selected then cut, clipped, and pasted dozens of digital files of objects from the collection into their collage of high-resolution images printed onto vinyl sheets
