Jenny Santiestevan is responsible for overseeing the care, preservation and management of biological frozen collections, mainly from threatened animal species, stored at the Smithsonian Conservation Biology Institute’s biorepository in Front Royal, Virginia. Collections maintained in the facility are from other Smithsonian units as well as other institutions. Prior to her work with the Smithsonian, Santiestevan worked as a licensed veterinary technician for domestic animals and as a clinical laboratory technician and manager.

Kenton Kerns is the Curator at the Smithsonian’s National Zoo’s Small Mammal House and Kids‘ Farm exhibits, where he facilitates the day-to-day management of the units and their animals. He coordinates the animal care, husbandry, and birth management programs; organizes building and exhibit maintenance; and leads educational and research activities within the unit.

Dr. McNamara is an interdisciplinary conservation scientist with over ten years of experience in conservation in Africa and Asia. He is an expert in the human dimensions of conservation and works with communities to integrate their needs into conservation planning and decision-making.

Dr. Aide has had a long trajectory of work in tropical ecology and conservation, including a diversity of academic contributions, and international distinction as a teacher and an academic mentor.

Chris Fleming is a physicist, mathematician, and statistician by training, and currently a fellow at the Smithsonian Conservation Biology Institute’s (SCBI) Conservation Ecology Center. Fleming focuses on developing complementary mathematical models, statistical analyses, and software packages for difficult to work with ecological data. Currently, his specific focus is addressing conservation related questions with animal tracking data, such as estimating how much space animals need.
